Classes on Blogging for Seniors

Let’s Hold A Class On Blogging for Seniors

laptops and 2 figures shaking hands in a class on blogging for seniorsHow many times have you been insulted by remarks such as, “Old people (still defined as over 40) can’t/don’t use computers,” or “They’re too old to learn tech stuff,” etc.?

I have been in business meetings in which these kinds of comments were made by people who, in fact, were in their 50s and should know better as they’re staring at me … the self-taught creator of 4 websites – at a far more advanced age. They know I’m a chronic user of email and social media (where they follow me). In addition, I teach a bunch of online and in-person classes on many business, wellness, and metaphysical subjects.

Nancy (Ayanna) Wyatt 2023Everyone knows I’m “old.” I don’t keep that a secret, so it’s very insulting and irritating to listen to these generalizations. Also, I live in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area and have met hundreds of women who are IT tech-savvy. Some of them hold high-level positions in the most sophisticated tech environments, like aerospace, defense, and biotechnology, for example. The insensitive commentators live here, too, so what’s wrong with them that they must stereotype people in this way? I wonder.

These folks are really intimidated at the prospect of trying. They are not stupid. They just have not yet learned what to do.

Thus, I created a class on the simple basics of blogging – whether it be for social media or more advanced articles for websites. What do you think of that idea? I’m sure I’m not the first person to think of creating a class on blogging for Seniors; but why should that stop me? It didn’t, so now I offer the class (in person where possible and via Zoom when we need to do it online.) It can begin with basic steps – like turning on a computer!

Let’s face it: it’s almost 4 a.m., and I am supposed to be asleep. So, I’m going to stop here and wait for your feedback to tell me if you are interested. Even if you’re not desirous of taking the class, you are welcome to share your opinion about what else should be included in the topics to be covered. Then, I’ll come back and edit this post to make it better! I’ve got to get to bed and sleep fast since it’s almost time to get up and start the commute for the day’s meetings.
