If you are interested in booking me for yourself, a family member, or as a gift to someone who cannot afford it, please contact me.

The portions I teach are about use of the English language.  They are:  Critical Reading, Sentence Completion (vocabulary) Passage Based Reading, Improving Sentences, Identifying Sentence Errors, Improving Paragraphs and Writing.

One of my students raised his score by 200 points after we worked together to identify the patterns of errors he had been making.  Once he concentrated on correcting those mistakes, he was able to feel much more confident and to excel on the exam questions.

The SAT is changing (for the better); but it has not changed yet.  Let me help with the current type of exam your student must take.

Here is the link to the organization which gives these exams (world-wide):

On the SAT website, you can find a test question of the day to give you practice and to help you understand the kinds of questions that will be asked.  That also is the place where you can find the schedule, register for a test, and find practice tests.  Smiley face reading w glasses

I am available primarily in the Northern Virginia and nearby region (Winchester, Front Royal areas) for in person tutoring.  My price is an hourly rate, dependent on the length of the commute involved.  There are lots of ways to improve one’s chances of scoring high and becoming eligible for acceptance into good institutions of higher learning.  Remember, the SAT scores are not the only thing that counts; but they do count heavily in the decisions Admissions Officers make about whom to accept into colleges and universities.  Hopefully, I can help!

Here is an excerpt from a recommendation for me from The Manigault Institute, which hired me as a private tutor for one of their SAT clients.   February, 2014.:

“…She is a remarkable teacher, who brings to her work patience, creativity, and unusual insight into a student’s unique challenges…Most recently, one of her students raised his SAT scores high enough to obtain admission to Johns Hopkins University by early decision…..I haven known (her) for several years and, not only is she a remarkable teacher, but her writing skills allow her to edit (she edited a book of ours) and do re-writes as well…she is a consummate professional.  She is dedicated, reliable, committed, personable, and attentive to detail.”

DO NOT PAY FOR A SESSION BEFORE WE TALK.  We’ll do the free consultation first, so that we can determine your student’s needs, your location, your pricing, and other details, such as scheduling.  Again, I primarily serve the Washington, D.C. Metro Area and the areas around Front Royal and Winchester, Virginia.  Once we determine our “game plan,” you will come back to this website in order to pay for the kinds and number of tutoring sessions on which we have agreed.  Below is a brief description of those options, and below that description is the Pay Pal link on which you can select the services for which you want to engage me.

Each Tutoring Session Will Take Two Hours

Yes, I give the student short breaks and teach them some breathing and relaxation exercises to do during those moments.

Those techniques not only will help them at exam time, but will assist them in overcoming fatigue and stress in all other environments, from the work place to family duals.

Typically, the price is $100 for a 2 hour session.

Dependent on the commuting time and costs involved, there may be an associated fee; but I don’t usually charge for that.

Here Are The SAT Exam Prep Options Available

  • Overview of test taking strategies – this is about general approaches to the material with an added attempt for me to determine the student’s strengths and weaknesses
  • Vocabulary Only – the SAT includes very unusual and rarely used vocabulary words, so this is a primary area of student downfall.
  • One Session – Reviewing samples of the actual types of questions and answers
  • (This is a very good tool for identifying the types of errors the student is making.  One session is not sufficient for the student to have practice reinforcement.  Know your goal when you book me.)
  • Two Sessions – Reviewing and working with samples of the actual types of questions and answers
  • Three Session – Reviewing and working with samples of the actual types of questions and answers
  • Four Sessions – Reviewing and working with samples of the actual types of questions and answers

Note:  3/7/14 – I had to disable the PayPal link, as it malfunctioned.  There are other ways to pay until I can get the link to Pay Pal reinstated.

  1. Wonderful blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you propose starting with a free platform like
Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed ..
    Any tips? Cheers!

    • Sorry for the delayed response. My computers have been malfunctioning for most of September. Tips for aspiring writers: Join LinkedIn and the writing groups contained in that site where discussions come up on a variety of topics. Join a local writers’ group…either by searching for them in your area or by joining and inserting writing or writers as one of your interests. There are lots of training materials on-line, and you can take classes at a local college – either as a for-credit student or as a continuing education student where grades usually are not given. WordPress has two different versions – one is free, and they maintain it, but you cannot advertise or sell on it. The other has to be hosted by some company other than WordPress. So you or the host must maintain it, but it enables you to conduct business on it. Again, there are tutorials on line; but I think WordPress is a pretty good option for beginners. I am self-taught and did not bother to read the tutorials. I still have some success, but – when in doubt – read the directions! 🙂 I got my domain name from GoDaddy, but had HostGator host the website before I switched to a local IT company. I hope this is helpful; but, if you want to talk more feel free to email me. If my computers keep working, I’ll reply as quickly as possible after I see your message! Thanks for your interest and your questions.
