Job Hunting

New Class ~ Job Hunting in the Age of Technology

fingers crossed

Cross Your Fingers!

You have to do a lot more than just cross your fingers to be successful. I have been involved in hiring procedures, as well as supervisory functions, during most of my extensive business career. I even created a complete Human Resources Department “from scratch”  for a company in New York City once upon a time;  and I have learned a lot from current Recruiters in a tough job market, where the rules and procedures  “ain’t what they used to be.” Recently, I compiled a resume and cover letter for a cost-estimating, construction engineer, who hired me as a professional writer for this task. In effect, he was offered the job ~ on the phone ~ immediately upon the company’s receipt of his materials, even though they were about ready to hire someone else! It was Thrilling! See his testimonial by clicking here.

I also have created a class for job hunters. It gives tips to entry-level job seekers, as well as to old pros. It is available for individuals and groups, as is my class on whether to and how to start a business, if you think the time is right to venture forth.

editing a documentYou can take my class; or you can book me for either writing or editing services for your application materials; or you can do both. However, if you do book me to provide the writing services, you will get the class free of charge, as well as a free template for thank you letters. Do whatever is likely to give you the greatest chance of victory after you read the class description below! celebrate figure riding on shoulders of 2 friends

What The Job Hunting Class Covers

The class describes how Human Resources and Hiring Authorities function these days in screening applications, what their primary objectives are, and who gets preferential treatment.

Almost all job applications must be completed on-line; however, there is much more you must do to get an interview, so I offer suggestions about groups in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area which offer great, FREE coaching on a regular basis.

What You Need To Know and To Do in Job Hunting

The class covers:

  • the role of LinkedIn and other social media
  • the topics of cover letters, differing formats for resumes, and thank you letters, and how these documents are being screened by computers or people.
  • when to use and not use photographs and what kinds of photos to choose
  • preferred formats for varying kinds of resumes
  • new expectations employers may have (B.Y.O.D.) and protecting yourself
  • transferable skills
  • honors and awards
  • certifications
  • tips for interviewing (I also can offer a separate class all about interviewing.).
  • recommendations for following up
  • networking to find employment
  • creating a “marketing plan” to sell your self
  • recommendations for using a search firm (“head hunter”)

Let me know if you are interested in having me present for you, as an individual or a group, or on-line. I offer a deeply discounted fee for those who are not currently employed. Thank you for your interest.
