ChatGPT and Other AI Uses in the Future

Disclaimer!

“The Future” is already here!

But, should I use them?

ChatGPT???!!! Arghhh! As the owner of My Persuasive Presentations, LLC, I offer writing, editing, critiquing, and other content creation services to clients. As a presenter and public speaker, I also create publications and classes for my use.

That makes me a professional writer, who does not want to destroy my stellar reputation or lose credibility by having AI create content for me.   !!!!!!!!

Smiley face emoji with red bow, long eyelashes, and hands to mouth covering concern about using AIOn the other hand, tasks like creating catchy titles and ad copy are not my forte.

I hate wasting time in often futile efforts to please myself.

So, I decided to learn AI for its writing tools, such as brainstorming or creating lists, tables, and slides in seconds. It also does so much more.

Should I/We Use Artificial Intelligence Apps in the Future?

Why?

I repeat: it can do administrative chores and can provide fodder for brainstorming about content in seconds. Here are examples of work I’ve done with ChatGPT within 3 days of taking a beginners’ class.

  • To begin with, it gave me creative ideas for blogs when I was feeling mind-numbingly vacuous.
  • It turned a typical 8-hour writing project into one that took 4 hours for me to complete.
  • It converted a different 8-hour writing project into one that took 3 hours – start to finish.
  • I used it to create subject matter suggestions for 10 slides into an original PowerPoint presentation, complete with images, in 5 minutes.

Smiley face girl w bow talking about AIIn each instance, I already have expertise in the topics, so I was able to discern immediately that the content supplied by ChatGPT was correct. All I had to do was edit it to “make it mine.”

Why Not?

emoji of a girl shrugging and raising her hands in confusion re AI

In addition to privacy concerns, my other reticence about using AI is that it is NOT a reliable source for fact-checked data and information.

Generally, an AI system is sweeping through LLMs (Large Language Models) to see what already has been posted some time, somewhere, by someone, and then it spits back a composite.

As we all know, Internet postings contain a lot of misinformation, disinformation, and both willful and inadvertent errors. So, we must fact-check any content that we choose to post that originated from AI tools.

That is why, as I’m learning how, when, and whether to use AI for content generation, I am selecting prompts about topics in which I already have expertise, such as holistic healing modalities. In that way, I usually can determine immediately if the content is legitimate and can spend less time fact-checking.

If Yes, What Then?

If the content is correct, a writer still needs to “tweak it” to put it into the “voice” or language that is appropriate for both the writer and the purpose of the project.

Note: ChatGPT allows the user to give instructions about making content shorter or longer, putting it into tables or bullet points, putting it into simpler language, etc.

Thus, the writer needs to review and edit content to suit the needs (education, culture, training, etc.) of the intended audience. For example, the writer probably would choose different language in addressing PhDs in academia versus a general audience of steam pipe fitters.

Contrary to What I Just Said …

I decided to experiment with developing PowerPoint slides on the topic of The Future of AI (According to ChatGPT) just to see what would happen.

Below is the almost completely unedited result, that AI created in roughly a minute. I am sharing it here so that you can see typical results on this topic.

The app allowed me to download the presentation as a PowerPoint, as a Google Doc, and as a PDF.

WordPress, on the other hand, did not allow me to capture the entire thing properly. Thus, you’ll see a couple of screenshots interspersed here.

Good News Re Using Photos via ChatGPT

Here, I chose not to include the photos that were generated. The good news is that, when AI provided photos, it included the credits needed for the images to be used.

Below are the results of this experiment – sans most photos.
