CREATIVITY – THE CHAKRA CRUTCH – UTILIZED IN CREATING IN HAIKU POETRY
I’m about to teach you how I psyched myself up to access my creativity – by using chakras as the foundation for Haiku poetry – when I had to write “upbeat” pieces of work for publication right after having to Euthanize another (the third during the pandemic) of my pets who had been with me for eighteen years. You also can overcome grief, physical pain, or “just being stuck,” by employing these techniques – with or without the poetry.
Speaking in Haiku ~
I was not smiling.
I felt paralyzed with grief.
I colored myself.
You will understand that last line better if you read (below) about Haiku and see the last poem.
As a holistic healing practitioner, I was blessed to know techniques that can be used to overcome grief and/or to tap into your imaginative mind for solving problems. You, too, can get “unstuck” in all areas of creativity, or household and business projects, and even health and emotional well-being, by learning about these chakra techniques. Most can be done anywhere in any circumstances. The Haiku is optional!
First let’s learn some definitions of Chakras and Haiku for those who don’t already know. Then, I’ll describe some simple tools you can use as relates to chakras.
If you want to learn LOTS more, then we can schedule this topic as a private session or as one of the classes I can teach to individuals or groups. Just sayin’ ….

What Are Chakras?
You’ve probably seen this picture – or one like it – showing the colors of the energy centers that reside in the body. “Chakra” means ‘spinning wheel’ of energy.
The seven most-recognized main chakras run along your spine. They start at the root, or base, of your spine and extend to the crown of your head. Each governs specific organs, nerves, and physical conditions. In addition, they relate to various emotional, mental, and relationship states (with self and others).
When you understand the body-mind connection, you will see how chakras affect the physical, mental, and emotional bodies and vice versa. The key to good mental and physical health is keeping the chakras healthy and well balanced.
Click Here to watch a short video describing the main chakras and the correlation with life situations and physical symptoms when they are open versus impaired.
What Happens When Chakras Are
Out of Balance?
According to Lena Schmidt’s article on the website, Chopra,
“Something feels “off.”
You get sick.
You get sick. Again.
You start making silly mistakes.
Everything seems to be falling apart.”
Click Here to read the whole article which describes the signs for each chakra that it needs balancing. I’ll quote just one example here.
“If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may have an imbalance in the root chakra:
- Pain and stiffness in your feet and legs
- Excess flexibility in your hamstrings/low sense of physical stability
- Feeling ungrounded, unsafe, and insecure
- Home life feels chaotic and unsettled
- Feeling stuck in life/low sense of flexibility.”
A Couple of Quick Tips for Chakra Healing
Breath and Intention
To resolve these issues, one can meditate or simply focus on all – or the problematic one – of these chakras.
Start by breathing in prana (air, life-force energy) to the focal point and imagining you are cleansing it with the color and musical tones associated with each chakra. When you breathe out, your intention is that all negativity is being removed each time you exhale.
This is one example of something you can do in a stressful meeting, when dealing with crying children, when waiting in long lines, or pretty much anywhere at any time you need some stress release.
People use stones, placed on the corresponding chakra by color, while lying down and stilling the body mind as much as possible for a few minutes.
I’ve been amazed by the effectiveness of this technique even when the stones are small. When the chakra is cleared (balanced), it sometimes gets that lively, effervescent “peppermint patty” or “carbonated fizz” kind of delightful feeling.
There are a couple of options, which can be used together or separately.
- Play music that is based on the note needed for each chakra. Alternatively, simply playing the musical scale of the notes, C, D, E, F, G, A, and B can be amazingly effective if you do it long enough.
- You also can research what music is composed in various keys (primary notes). Here is an example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_symphonies_in_D_major
With or without music, you can concentrate on images containing the specific color you need for each chakra. That could be a painting, a candle, or a large image of kaleidoscopes that change colors when you want to work on all chakras simultaneously.
Of course, YouTube is full of videos containing music and images.
In the final Haiku poem below, you will find the colors and symbols for the individual chakras, if you want to concentrate on only one at a time.
Reiki and Other Forms of Energy Healing
Most in-person and distance healing modalities include work on the chakras. A well-known example, now accepted by some Western medical practitioners and insurance companies, is Reiki. Click Here for a description. Yes, I do “distance healing,” but that is not the purpose of this blog, so I’ll not describe details here. What About the Haiku Poetry?
Haiku = A Three-Line-17-Syllable Structure in Poetry.
Haiku, unrhymed poetic form consisting of 17 syllables arranged in three lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively. The haiku first emerged in Japanese literature during the 17th century, as a terse reaction to elaborate poetic traditions, though it did not become known by the name haiku until the 19th century.”

A Haiku Poem Containing Multiple Verses
A Haiku poem does not have to have only one verse. Here are two examples of using the same form in multiple verses on one topic.

The Combo of Chakras and Haiku
Remember, my heart was freshly-broken, and my immediate assignment was to meet the deadline for writing some uplifting, short works to go into an anthology.
I’m a holistic healer, among other things, so I decided to put focus on each of my chakras. The plan was to infuse them and my mind with the corresponding colors and the musical notes of the scale as I had to think of topics and expressions suitable for something other than a Greek Tragedy.
Typically, I am verbose, as one can see by reading any of the pages and posts on this website. But, my energy was low, and time was short. Thus, I chose Haiku as the format for most of the submissions.
Infusing Each Chakra With Focused Attention To Create Change
As you can see, any conversation about chakras could go on for days without covering the whole topic, especially since other life forms also have chakras. Thus, I share a little resource with you to begin your research. Click Here for a website page on “Chakras 101.”
The Haiku Poem In the Chakra Experiment
Here is what I came up with – unedited – unembellished – and unpolished.
I’m sure I could do better if I were to intentionally set out to compose a “great poem,” but all I wanted to do was meet the impending deadline. So, I offer it to you as an exercise to try, rather than as a professional work.
Note: when meditating or healing chakras, one typically starts at the bottom (root) and works upward. In this example, I went wherever my spirit led me for each stanza. The chakra images are by Peter Lomas on Pixabay.
Note: Haiku poetry does not typically include images nor the asterisks between stanzas, such as those I’ve put here to help you learn about the chakras.
Creating Creativity with Chakras and Haiku

Stuck, I seek the orange glow.
The sacral chakra.
I sing the note of
D, trying not to be flat.
The two work in synch.
Now floods imagination.
I am free to write.
Then, I choose the crown’s
Purple, golden, or white rays
Next, I choose the heart,
Resplendent in clover green,
To generate love.
And then, powder blue
To give clarity to my
Indigo Third Eye
Let’s me see the path forward.
Visions – words – emerge.
Cranberry red brings
Grounding to the root and then
Yields pen to paper.
Did I meditate?
No, it’s unnecessary.
Know the note and tint.
That is all you need
To unstick yourself at times
Be creative now!

Oops! Pardon Me!
The keen observer will note that I, inadvertently, left out the solar plexus chakra. Chalk that up to the distress from which I found myself emerging.
However, I’ll share the image now, so that we all my have a sense of completion.

I realize this whole conversation may seem a bit convoluted. It’s so much easier to explain and demonstrate things in person or – second best – on Zoom.
